How To Cure Acne

Acne is a most unpopular condition because of its obvious visibility. Wherever you go, it stares you in the face and every wall seems to have mirrors reminding you of its presence. It therefore comes as no surprise that acne preparations and even powerful drugs with major side effects are popular with people who have this condition. Don’t panic though or reach for powerful medication until you have considered the natural approaches to this condition.

WHAT IS ACNE?

Acne is a chronic skin condition that mostly affects the face, but can also affect the upper chest, back and shoulders. It can occur as small pimples or large, unsightly cysts. It may form boil like lesions under the skin that come and go, or blackheads, redness of the skin and whiteheads.
The condition involves the oil – secreting glands of the skin and hair follicles and as a result tends to appear on parts of the body where these are particularly concentrated. Scarring may remain afterwards in more severe cases.

CAUSES

The cause of acne brings forth major controversies and there is most likely no single cause for this skin condition. While in each individual case there may be factors that dominate, there will be other contributing factors. This is the reason that acne can occur on adults as well as teens. Hormones play a major role, as is evident in the teenage years as well as during the menstruation cycle in some women.
One theory suggests that acne is related to testosterone secretion and that higher levels during puberty in both boys and girls causes the skin to produce more sebum. When the glands that produce sebum become blocked, blackheads or whiteheads form. These glands may then become infected or may even burst, causing the surrounding tissue to become inflamed.
The diet that you consume plays an important role. A few studies have shown that the Western Diet is directly linked with the increased incidence of acne. Research shows that there is far less acne among the black population of Zambia who eat a traditional diet than among blacks in the USA. Eskimos who changed to a western diet after world war 2 developed a number of new diseases, including acne. This is most probably due to the fact that the western diet contains refined vegetable oils, margarine, sugar and refined carbohydrates
There are many doctors who firmly believe that acne is a result of a dysfunctional digestive system. Constipation, indigestion and bacterial flora imbalance can all cause toxic and abnormal by-products of fermentation. If these are absorbed into the body then it may cause acne in some people. The primary organ of detoxification is the liver and if this organ does not remove all the toxins arising from the intestines then various problems could occur in parts of the body.
The body is highly intelligent and each and every person is unique. The system may take particular paths of least resistance under particular circumstances, accounting for why one person mat develop acne and another heart disease for example.
